Isobutyl alcohol
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Isobutyl alcohol (Isobutanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol) is the simplest monoatomic alcohol, one of the isomers of butyl alcohol.
Isobutyl alcohol is a colorless liquid with a characteristic odor. It is almost impossible to distinguish its smell from butanol. Isobutanol is an isomer of n-butanol, their properties are almost identical. Like butyl alcohol, isobutyl alcohol is a good solvent for essential oils, waxes, ethers, alkaloids, and some synthetic resins. According to the passport, these spirits can be distinguished by density. The density of isobutanol (0.801-0.803) is lower than that of butanol (0.809-0.810). Accordingly, the boiling point of isobutanol is 108 C, and that of butanol is 117 C.
USE CASES
The most famous application of isobutanol is its use in the paint industry. It is a part of many number solvents, washes, oil and fuel additives. Along with butanol, isobutanol is used for the production of butyl acetate, butyl acrylate, production of plastics and resins.
