Methylene chloride
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Methylene chloride is an organic compound, Methylene chloride is a derivative of methane. Synonyms: methylene chloride, dichloromethane, DXM. The formula is CH2CI2. It was first synthesized in 1840: in the laboratory, gaseous chlorine was combined with methyl chloride and the mixture was exposed to light. For mass production, dichloromethane is obtained by chemical synthesis of methane extracted from coke gases and gaseous chlorine. Another method: production of chloromethyl from methanol and hydrochloric acid, followed by chlorination.
USE CASES
Due to the unique ability to dissolve various organic substances, low toxicity, easy removal, dichloromethane is actively used in various industries and laboratories. Yes, it is a component of nail polish remover, it is used to extract essential oils, remove caffeine from coffee, and extract hops. Surfaces are cleaned of paint and grease. It is used in the photo industry (processing of photographic and film films), in the production of polyurethane foam (foaming agent). The substance is widely used as a solvent (rubbers, plastics, cellulose ethers).
