Orthophosphate acid is an inorganic compound, an acid of H3PO4 composition, which forms a number of orthophosphate (phosphate) salts. At room temperature, it is a white crystalline substance, and when heated to 42.35 °C, it turns into a colorless viscous liquid.

It is widely used to obtain mineral fertilizers, to create protective coatings, in the production of cosmetics and glass. Industrial orthophosphoric acid is the most important semi-product for the production of phosphoric and complex fertilizers (fodder phosphates for animal husbandry) and technical phosphates, it is also widely used for metal phosphating, toothpaste production, as a catalyst in organic synthesis. And also for cleaning metal surfaces and creating anti-corrosion coatings. Orthophosphoric acid is registered as food additive E338. It is used as an acidity regulator in carbonated drinks. There is information that it leads to the washing out of calcium from the human body already an hour after consumption.
