Perchlorethylene (or tetrachlorethylene or PE) is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor, is an organochlorine solvent and is the most well-known solvent for dry cleaning machines. Found its application in dry cleaning – about 60% of all perchlorethylene that is consumed is used as a solvent in dry cleaning. The reason for its widespread use is that it is non-flammable and can be used safely.

Perchlorethylene dissolves almost all organic substances found on soiled clothes, including fats, oils and wax, and its high density provides excellent cleaning power due to increased mechanical impact on things. The high fluidity of perchlorethylene provides quick penetration into clothing fibers and effective decomposition of dirt. In addition to all of the above, tetrachlorethylene does not harm most commonly used fabrics, dyes, and finishes found on textiles. Perchloethylene evaporates quickly and completely, leaving no residual odor. Suitable for any dry cleaning machines.
